The Subjects, Arms, Uninhabitable Mansions, & Frances at Bell House, February 24, 2010
On Wednesday night I attended a lovely evening of music at Bell House to benefit the Jiamini Scholarship Fund. I must confess, the main reason I wanted to go to this was to add more fuel to the fire of my huge musical crush on Arms, who I can’t help wanting to see whenever they play. As it happens, all four bands were absolutely fantastic, and Bell House was, as usual, the perfect comfortable intimate venue to see them in (my cranky photographer complaints about too much red lighting aside). (Ok, I really need to get another little photographer’s rant out of my system: this was the second show I shot with my new Canon 7D, and I learned a valuable lesson – don’t fumble around changing focusing settings, in the dark, on a camera you don’t know inside and out yet, especially when you don’t have the manual with you. You will spend a lot of frustrating slightly panicked time trying to set things right, and in the process miss half of a band’s set. If the autofocus is being wonky, switch to manual and shoot that way. The end!) Some photos below, and a full gallery is available here on flickr.
